Question of the Week

What are your feelings about the changes that have occured from Generation 1 (pictured above 2nd picture) to the new 2007 movie version of the Transformers (2nd picture)? Not just in terms of design, but also in terms of the story, new characters and the human factor. All opinions are welcomed. We want to know what you think.

Simple question right? I'm not going to comment, but if everyone can put in their 2 cents by clicking on comments on the bottom of this post, then we can get a short discussion started.

We at Vector Sigma want to get more feedback from everyone who visits our blog. So what better way to do this then asking a simple question. Enjoy.

I think the new design looks too far fetched. They also tried to make them look organic, as if they have some living fibers inside of them. G1 design was straight up metal transforming into robots, none of that DNA looking crap which they introduced in 2007. Plus, the earlier designs were easy to distinguish between who is who, because every Transformer had a unique look. In the 2007 movie, sometimes you cant even tell who is fighting who because they all look the same in some of the action scenes.

I think the new designs are not that bad except for Megatron, he looks really awful. What I am pleased with the new transformers are their voices, which definitely enhance their personalities, especially Megatron and Barricade. Optimus Prime sounds even better than the cartoon.

I think Optimus Prime and Starscream are the only designs I can really appreciate. Also their voices were pretty close to the original tv show. The biggest disappoint was Bumblebee. He was a VW Beatle in the 80's and now he's a freaking GM Camaro. I'm all for product placement in movies and re-designing the characters, but it was too much of a change. I think only having GM vehicles in the movie kind of was annoying also. They should have mixed it up a little bit. Also I agree with volcanik in that they made them look like some hybrid cyborg alien life forms.....and for people who don't know anything about the old tv show, it can be a bit confusing about who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. The action/fighting scenes were choppy at times.

Overall the movie was okay. It definitely inspired me to get back into the old tv show. The human factor with Sam and Mikaela and the humor definitely kept it entertaining. There needs to be more action sequences and better story telling. The writers changed too much of the original G1 story and the last 20 to 30 minutes seemed rushed. The CGI was amazing but again they didn't show enough. Also it wasn't enough about the transformers, it was more about the human factor and how the humans were going to deal with it, instead of just about the transformers. The movie was made for a mass audience which makes sense when your trying to sell tickets. Thanks a lot Michael Bay, lol. It is still worth watching in the theater for the CGI and Action.
